Today Buddy went for a trip to my mom's house and was introduced to my niece and nephew and my mom's dog, Frankie. We took a leap in one trip giving him so many new "firsts" in a new environment, but he has been such a good boy, we knew he was ready and would do great. The car ride over was fantastic. It was a warm day and I had the windows partially down. Buddy enjoyed having his snout out the window and he is comfortable in both the front and back seat. When meeting the kids (ages 6 and 4), Buddy was very friendly. He didn't jump on them and was affectionate. We weren't surprised because Buddy has previously lived with children. He gladly accepted treats and pets. He enjoyed sniffing around the new yard, meeting my family, and playing with a variety of new toys. When meeting Frankie, a submissive 10 year old beagle, both dogs initially had their fur up. However, they both let the other exchange sniffs with no issue. Their fur quickly went down and they were relaxed with one another. Buddy tried to initiate play, however, our old gal wasn't interested. Frankie doesn't show ANY dominance, and Buddy was persistent about wanting to play (nudging her, following her around, etc...) so we did step in a few times to try to assert some dominance and to give Frankie a little break from his puppy energy. He did a nice job and we discovered he likes ice cubes and carrots as snacks. Back home, he is zonked out from a VERY exciting day. He will be a fantastic addition to a family. |
