We have shared a home with Aidan for one month now and here is what we would like to share with his potential adopters about what we have learned about this big goofball. Physical Appearance: At his last vet visit he weighted 57 lbs. He is a strong boy with the sweetest smile. Energy: Aidan is estimated to be a bit over a year old. Although he has some perks of being a big boy (bladder control, attention to learn, etc...) we still see some puppy like tendencies such as needing some redirection, learning boundaries, and getting spirts of being rambunctious. Eating: One of the first things that impressed us about Aidan is what a good boy he is at meal time. No food aggression and he patiently waits for food to be poured into his bowl. He is getting 1.5 cups at breakfast and dinner. He takes treats soooooo gentle. Bathroom: Aidan has been doing awesome with potty training. The first week we had a few pee pee accidents in the house, but I don't remember the last time he had an accident. He has quickly learned that sitting at the back door is his way to signal that he needs to go outside. Crate: He sleeps in his crate all night long and when we are at work, he does well being in there up to 8 hours. We leave a few hard bones in the crate to entertain him. We had a crate pad in his cage for about 2 weeks with no issue, but one day we came home and it was shredded. He didn't ingest any, but just a word of caution to monitor this for his safety. Sleeping at night: He sleeps ALL NIGHT LONG. The first night because he was doing so good with potty training, we tried to let him sleep on a dog bed in our room. He just paced and looked a bit uneasy. We put him in the crate, and after about 7 minutes of whining, he went to sleep. Every other night he goes into the crate without a peep. My husband wakes up earlier than I do and gets the dogs fed. I have noticed the past few mornings Aidan has been leaping on the bed to come keep me company while I hit the snooze button. He sleeps well in his crate, but I also think he wouldn't mind snuggling with his new human parents any chance he gets. Toys: Pictured in this post are some of Aidan's favorite toys. He is a tough chewer and needs durable toys. He also is AWESOME at fetch, so have a tennis ball ready to play with in the yard. Car: We have had several car rides with Aidan and he has gotten so much more comfortable. Medical: In our previous post we shared Aidan's recent mystery injury that caused him to limp. He has greatly improved and continues to be on anti-inflammatories and pain medication to help with his healing. Walks: Because of his injury, we have been directed by the vet to limit rough activity. We are bummed that we haven't taken Aidan on a walk in days. :( When we were walking him, he was making progress. He pulls a bit but was getting better. On walks he is a bit cautious of big blow up holiday decorations and when someone suddenly appears out of a parked car or their house. He lets out a bark, like he's saying, "hey, I see you" Tricks: Aidan knows "sit" and we have been working on "stay" and "lay down". Although not a necessary command, I think he also knows "kiss", because when I say this and lean down, I get a big 'ol smooch! Interactions with people: We haven't had many visitors the past month, but when he meets people he is pretty excited. A little jumpy, but not over powering. He'll need some support with this because he is a big boy. He has not been around children. Interactions with dogs: We have only seen Aidan interact directly with our resident diva, Jackie. He is a bit too playful for this mature gal and sometimes needs reminders to give her some space if she is looking annoyed. On the flip side, there have also been some nice snuggle and tug-of-war sessions between these two. As I type this, there is a big opening next to me on the couch, but Jackie chose to join him in the dog bed. Snuggle Status: A+ one of the best foster snugglers ever! I just asked my husband, what his favorite thing about Aidan is. "How sweet he is. He's such a sweet pup. He's so happy." I couldn't agree more. This boy just wants to give and get love. |
