As I write this after 10pm, both dogs are passed out! (Mine is snoring) We had a lovely day outside and we ended up going for four short walks. Buddy is still pulling a bit, but he is already doing much better than our first walk. On our walks he was startled by some neighborhood noises such as car doors shutting, garbage cans being brought to the curb, or other dogs barking. After the initial startle, he just resumed his walk. No big deal. Buddy met my wonderful in-laws tonight and they noticed how he is even better behaved than my dog! He also met my neighbors through the fence and he gave the neighbor kids little kisses. The neighbors commented how they didn't even know we got a new dog until they saw him because he is so quiet. We'll see how our first night goes. I'd say by the two sleeping dogs beside me that day one was a success! :) |

Tomorrow we are meeting our first potential foster, Buddy, from the Detroit Dog Rescue. He is an Australian Shepard mix estimated to be between 8 months to a year old. From what we know he was taken from a hoarding situation a few months back (see here and here) and has been in a kennel ever since. We are looking forward to giving him a home, a yard to run in, and several good walks a day.
We have a two and a half year old boxer boy named, Milo (see picture at header). Although he doesn't have the best manners when meeting people (can you say "jumping bean"?), he is extremely playful and energetic towards other dogs he meets. We hope he and Buddy are a good fit and that both will find companionship in one another and burn off some energy! We are very excited to get this process underway, but we are also a bit nervous. How will our dog, Milo, adapt to having a new friend? Do we have everything we need? Will we be able to give Buddy what he needs? Our first adventure begins tomorrow.... we'll see what happens. Stay tuned. |
